Hosts Morocco booked their place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) last 16 with a 3-0 win over Zambia, maintaining their unbeaten start in Group A.

The Atlas Lions went ahead after 10 minutes when striker Ayoub El Kaabi headed in Azzedine Ounahi’s cross from a set piece.

Real Madrid star Diaz doubled the lead in the 26th minute, sweeping home a low left-foot drive from an Abde Ezzalzouli delivery.

El Kaabi struck again four minutes into the second half with a bicycle kick from Ounahi’s chipped free kick, confirmed after a VAR check.

The result eliminated Zambia, who struggled to create chances throughout, with Morocco fans buzzing with joy as they eye their second AFCON trophy.

Mali advanced to the next round after a goalless draw against Comoros.

Mali advanced as Group A runners-up after a 0-0 draw with Comoros. Mali dominated possession but failed to break down Comoros’ low block, with goalkeeper Ali Ahamada Pandor saving long-range efforts before halftime.

Comoros missed a clear chance on the hour mark when striker Saïd was denied by a goal-line clearance from Diaby, though the move was later ruled offside.

Mali finished with 10 men after Haidara was sent off in the 88th minute but held on for the point they needed.

Egypt and South Africa progress from Group B

Egypt, already qualified, drew 0-0 with Angola in a match where Angola created the better chances. Fredy hit the post with a free kick early in the second half, while Egypt substitute Fathy went close late on. Angola’s failure to score ended their tournament.

South Africa beat Zimbabwe 3-2 in a decisive clash. An own goal from Lunga gave South Africa an early lead before Maswanhise equalised with a solo effort.

Foster restored South Africa’s advantage after a defensive error, but another Maswanhise strike, deflected in off Modiba, levelled the game.

The winner came from a VAR-awarded penalty converted by Apollis in the 80th minute, sending South Africa through.
