AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, has commenced the construction and furnishing of a modern 400-bed girls’ dormitory at T. I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School at Fomena, in the Adansi North District.

The project forms part of the Mine’s 10-Year Socio-economic Development Plan (SEDP) and reinforces its commitment to expanding access to quality education, improving student accommodation, and enhancing student welfare across its host communities.

The purpose-built, two-storey facility will provide a safe, durable and fully serviced residential environment for students, whose dormitory was destroyed by a fire outbreak in February 2025.

Each floor will accommodate 200 students, arranged in four bays to enhance supervision, optimise space utilisation and strengthen fire compartmentalisation.

Both levels will include 20 water closet units and 18 shower bays, fitted with proper plumbing, waterproofing, and drainage systems.

The dormitory will also feature self-contained teacher’s quarters, administrative offices with washrooms, ironing rooms, and a dedicated power room for electrical distribution.

It will be fully furnished with durable bunk beds, sanitary fixtures and electrical fittings to ensure immediate operational readiness upon completion.

Mr Eric Broni, the Director of Engineering at AngloGold Obuasi Mine, at the groundbreaking ceremony, stated that the initiative aligned with the company’s purpose of mining to empower people and advance societies.

He noted that, the Mine remained on course to deliver on its pledge to improve educational outcomes in its local communities, citing ongoing projects such as the nine-unit school at Sanso, the establishment of examination centres, the robotics centre and the distribution of NaCCA-approved textbooks.

Nana Amoanimaa Dede II, the Adansihemaa, commended the Mine for its sustained investments under the SEDP, noting that the new dormitory would significantly improve living conditions for girls and support better academic performance.

As part of efforts to promote local economic growth, Golden Mainland Ghana Ltd, an Obuasi based contractor has been awarded the contract to execute the project within 12 months.
