Staff of the Finance and Legal teams at Absa Bank Ghana have presented braille laptops to visually impaired students at Okuapemman Senior High School.

The initiative forms a part of the Bank’s ongoing Citizenship and Colleague Volunteerism efforts to, among other things, equip students with Information Communication and Technology (ICT) tools.

Speaking at the event, the Reverend Richard Koranteng Afari, Headmaster of the School, said the 3,500 student population included 49 visually impaired learners.

He said the School admitted 20 visually impaired students annually, and shared the institution’s plan to expand infrastructure and technology to accommodate up to 60 students in the future.

“We are striving to teach visually impaired students to use technology in this age, and so I want to commend the Finance and Legal teams of Absa Bank for their support over the past three years,” Mr Afari said.

Mkushi Munatsi, Executive Director of Finance, Absa Bank, urged the students to aim for the best in all endeavours.

“I want to encourage you to strive for good things in life, no matter your circumstances. Life can always be better.

“This is not the last time we will visit you. We look forward to seeing the foundations we build together,” he said.

Madam Regina Zillevu, a visually impaired teacher, expressed appreciation on behalf of the students, noting that previous donations from the bank had positively impacted academic performance, with many students obtaining distinction in the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Other Absa Bank representatives at the event were: Ms Priscilla Yeboah, Head of Citizenship; Mr Richard Boadi, Head of Financial Decision Support; and other members from the finance and legal teams.
