The Naana Kakie Foundation, a non-governmental organisation focused on HIV/AIDS awareness and advocacy, has appointed 10 young girls as HIV/AIDS Awareness Ambassadors to champion education and sensitisation in schools and communities in Ada.
The girls, who will be known as Naana Kakie Foundation HIV/AIDS Ambassadors, were presented with certificates to authenticate their appointments.
Madam Esther Kakie Ayimavor-Puplampu, popularly known as Naana Kakie and Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the initiative was premised on the belief that empowering young girls to lead peer education efforts would contribute to building a healthier and better-informed generation.
She said the ambassadors would undergo structured training to deepen their understanding of HIV/AIDS, including its causes, symptoms, prevention methods and common myths, while equipping them to help reduce stigma and discrimination against persons living with HIV.
She said the selection followed an interactive HIV/AIDS education session held during the Foundation’s Girls’ Netball Empowerment Competition and HIV/AIDS Awareness Programme at Kasseh.
Naana Kakie explained that the girls were assessed based on their knowledge of HIV/AIDS, enthusiasm to serve and responses during the engagement sessions.
The appointed ambassadors are Priscilla Nartey, Princess Amakuor Tachie, Nice Kwadjo, Gloria Djangmakie Wussah, Hannah Asabea Aklie, Angelina Emaahi Tswasam, Josephine Mamle Otumfuor, Millicent Maku Gblekpor, Emmanuella Kpalam and Kate Zogblah.
Naana Kakie charged the girls to remain vigilant, protect themselves and their peers against HIV infection, and promote voluntary testing and responsible behaviour in their schools and communities.
She added that periodic training and mentorship sessions would be organised to continuously equip the ambassadors with the skills and information needed to effectively carry out their roles.
