Tampion (N/R)-Ghana, Oct 24, GNA – The Anglican Diocesan Development and Relief Organisation (ADDRO) has held a breast screening and awareness creation exercise for women in the Nanton and Karaga Districts of the Northern Region.

The exercise, which was in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service, formed part of ADDRO’s Movements That Matter (MTM) project, which is an Early Childhood Development Programme funded by Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) USA.

It was aimed at sensitising caregivers under the project on the early signs, and dangers of breast cancer as well as its prevention.

Mr John Patrick Atampugre, Northern Regional MTM Project Officer, speaking during the exercise, said the project primarily targeted women, adding that breast cancer awareness was included, given its essence in women’s health.

He noted that about 388 caregivers were screened and sensitised across the districts as part of the exercise.

He said although the event targeted women, 32 beneficiaries were men, and urged caregivers to actively participate in such sessions to increase their knowledge on health issues.

In both districts, there were six suspected breast cancer cases that the Project referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further consideration.

Madam Mahamud Ayisha, a Public Health Nurse in the Nanton District, who led the sensitisation at Tampion, urged participants to report changes in their breasts as soon as they noticed them.

She said health facilities in the district were poised to attend to all and encouraged women to pay keen attention to their breasts and seek help when the need arises.
