The Amasaman High Court has reduced Patricia Asiedua, also known as Agradaa’s, 15-year jail term to 12 months, effective from July 2025.
Agradaa, a fetish priestess turned evangelist, was also ordered to pay a fine of GHC 2,400 or serve three months in default.
Earlier, the court directed her to refund GHC 1,000 to two complainants, following a judgment from the Circuit Court.
Her sentence was reduced after she appealed against the 15-year term imposed by the Accra Circuit Court for defrauding two persons under the pretext of doubling their money.
The High Court held that the lower court’s sentence was excessive and harsh.
In July 2025, Agradaa, through her lawyer, filed an appeal before the Amasaman High Court on the grounds that her conviction and sentence were not supported by evidence on record and that the trial was flawed.
She contended that the Circuit Court judge had infringed her right to a fair trial by requiring her to prove her innocence despite the prosecution not presenting sufficient evidence.
In 2022, Agradaa publicly claimed she was sharing GHC 300,000 and invited the public to her church, Heaven Way Champion International Ministry at Weija in Accra, to receive a share of the donation.
She later collected money from the public under the pretext of doubling it but failed to deliver the promised returns.
