The sod-cutting ceremony, undertaken in collaboration with the Akatsi North District Assembly, covers the construction of classroom blocks and teachers’ bungalows in selected communities.
The projects include a three-unit classroom block at Lome-Ghana Basic School; six-unit teachers’ bungalows with toilet facilities at Lome-Ghana Basic School and Kpohe Basic School; a two-unit Kindergarten (KG) classroom block with ancillary facilities at E.P. Basic School and Ave Afiadenyigba Gboxoxome.
The rest are a six-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Nuaxorve Basic School; a six-unit teachers’ bungalow with toilet facilities at Nuaxorve Basic School; and a two-unit KG block with ancillary facilities together with a three-unit Junior High School (JHS) block at Ashiagborvi Basic School.
Mr. Nortsu-Kotoe said the projects formed part of a shared vision between the MP and the District Chief Executive (DCE) to ensure that no basic school in the district would face a classroom deficit by the end of the year.
He explained that the initiative was motivated by the desire to spare current pupils the difficulties many experienced in the past due to inadequate infrastructure.
Improving teacher accommodation, he noted, was also a key priority. He stressed that schools located far from main roads would be provided with teachers’ bungalows to promote comfort, punctuality, and effective teaching.
The MP urged parents to take responsibility for providing the basic needs of their children and to ensure punctuality at school.
He appealed to teachers, school authorities, traditional leaders, and community members to take ownership of the projects, safeguard building materials against theft, and support contractors to deliver quality work within schedule. He assured residents that all projects would be completed and handed over before the end of the year.
Mr. Bless Kojo Katamani, District Chief Executive for Akatsi North, said elections offer citizens the opportunity to make choices that shape development outcomes over a four-year period.
He indicated that the current investments in education infrastructure reflected the right decisions made by the electorate.
Mr. Katamani commended the MP for the initiative and encouraged contractors to engage local artisans to create employment opportunities and stimulate the local economy.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant at project sites to prevent theft of materials, cautioning that such acts undermine quality and delay completion. He advised workers to remain diligent and avoid excessive financial demands that could burden contractors.
On behalf of the Akatsi North District Education Directorate, Mr. Michael Katamani, Monitoring, Planning and Evaluation Officer, expressed appreciation to the MP for the classroom blocks and teachers’ bungalows.
He said the facilities would significantly reduce the burden on teachers who currently travel long distances to school, often arriving late and fatigued, which negatively affects academic performance.
He called on school authorities to maintain the facilities upon completion and urged parents to complement government efforts by supporting their children at home.
Mr. Katamani identified reading difficulties as a major challenge in the district and encouraged parents to devote time to helping their children read, noting that children spend more time at home than the eight hours they are in school.
School authorities, assembly members, parents, and traditional leaders expressed gratitude for the projects and pledged to protect the facilities after completion.
They further encouraged pupils to study hard and make good use of the improved learning environment to grow into responsible future leaders.
