Accra-Ghana, Oct 24, GNA – The Paediatric Society of Ghana (PSG) has expressed concern over the possibility of the Akosombo Dam Spillage causing children to miss their immunization schedules.
It said that could increase diarrheal diseases, pneumonia, and malaria.
The PSG in a statement issued in Accra and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said those were all serious illnesses that led to mortality in children hence the need for support.
It said due to the devastating effect of the spillage, families, including children had been displaced, with lack of shelter and adequate clothing to protect them from harsh weather conditions and vector-borne diseases.
It said the leadership and membership of the PSG sympathised with all families and communities that had been affected by the flooding.
It commended the efforts of the government, its agencies, affiliates, the Ghana Medical Association, non-governmental organisations, and other key stakeholders working hard to provide support to the displaced families.
“The members of our Society are working with the medical teams to provide healthcare services to affected children in these communities,” it added.
