Mr Christian Kwame, Principal of Alavanyo Evangelical Presbyterian Technical Institute (EPTI) in the Volta Region, says the 46-year-old educational facility has not received any government support since May 1978.

The Institute’s student enrollment for the 2024/25 Academic Year stood at 1,407 made of 1,134 boys and 273 girls as well as 1,352 being boarders and 55-day students.

Mr Kwame speaking during a ground-breaking ceremony for a dining hall by Mama Ametor Hoebuadzu II, Paramount Queen of Alavanyo Traditional Area, said all projects in the Institute were either from the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, German Partners (Bremen Missionaries) or the Internally Generated Fund (IGF).

He said appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to help provide an 18-Unit classroom block, dormitories for both boys and girls, 1,000 mono desks, school bus and 1,000 bunk beds.

Mr Kwame called on old students, corporate bodies, philanthropists, non-governmental organizations, citizens of Alavanyo home and abroad and the public to also support the Institute to enhance teaching and learning.

He said a six-unit classroom block project was currently ongoing under the Institute’s IGF.

The Institute has also commissioned an 18-seater toilet facility for the boys’ dormitory which is sponsored by the German Partners.

Mr Kwame said despite the challenges, academic work was progressing steadily and the graduates were favourably competiting with their counterparts from other tertiary institutions across the country.

Reverend Dr Lawson Kwaku Dzanku, Board Chairman of the Institute, called on the students to eschew any form of hooliganism to protect the reputation of their School.

He urged them to address their grievances through appropriate and laid down rules.
