The Jasikan District Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Innocent Owusu, in connection with the alleged murder of his father, Peter Owusu, aged 59, at Likpe Abrani in the Guan District of the Oti Region.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, December 30, at the family’s residence. After the alleged act, the suspect fled the area but was later arrested following intelligence-led operations at his hideout in the forest of Abrani.
Police have retrieved the body of the deceased and deposited it at the Hohoe Government Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The suspect is currently in custody at Jasikan and is assisting police with investigations.
Confirming the arrest to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACOP) Ernest S. Fosu, Jasikan Divisional Commander of the Ghana Police Service, said preliminary interrogation indicated the suspect claimed spiritual influence for his actions.
ACOP Fosu said the suspect is expected to be arraigned before court on Monday, January 5, or Tuesday, January 6, as investigations continue.
