Tweapease (Ash)-Ghana, July 24, GNA – The Amansie Central District Assembly has performed a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a boys’ dormitory for Tweapease Senior High School (SHS).

Established as a private school in 2012, the Tweapease SHS was absorbed by the government as a day school in 2018.

The school with a population of more than 400 students gained boarding status in 2023 when the first batch of about 122 students made up of both males and females were admitted into makeshift dormitories.

Mr. Michael Donkor, the District Chief Executive (DCE), at a short sod-cutting ceremony to signal the commencement of construction, said the project which would be funded by the Minerals Development Fund, forms part of measures by the Assembly to improve facilities in the school.

“As an Assembly we are conscious of the infrastructural gap in the Tweapease Senior High School, hence we have resolved to salvage the situation by providing boys’ dormitory for the start,” he said.

He said the government had been resourcing the school since its establishment, adding that, it had already provided the school with a new bus and pick-up vehicle.

The DCE, however, appealed to parents to also contribute to the development of the school as stakeholders.

Mr. Archibald Oppong, the contractor executing the project, gave assurance that the project would be completed within six months as stipulated in the contract and that quality would not be compromised.

Nana Pokuaa Amoako, the District Director of Education, lauded the Assembly for the project which, she said, would partly resolve the infrastructural deficit in the school.

Mr. Theophilus Yeboah, Headmaster of the School described the project as a welcome relief for the staff and students,

He said the need to accommodate the students at the school compelled them to improvise by converting some classrooms into dormitories.

“We want the government to come to our aid by regularizing the appointment of security personnel in the school as well as fencing the school to ward off intruders and criminals,” he said.
