A stakeholders’ engagement forum has been held at Kodzi in the Anloga District to sensitise residents at the Kome area on the upcoming Kome Roads Construction Project.
The meeting, held few days ago, brought together community members from the six Kome communities, regional engineers, and representatives of the construction firm to discuss the scope, timelines, and anticipated impact of the project.
It also provided an opportunity for residents to raise questions and express concerns ahead of the commencement of construction works.
Regional engineers and officials of the contractor took turns to respond to issues raised by participants, assuring the communities of strict adherence to approved project specifications and engineering standards.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Mensah Peter Dagbi, a former Planning Officer at the Keta Municipal Assembly and a key consultant on the project, explained that the engagement was aimed at promoting transparency and preventing misinformation.
He noted that early interaction between project implementers and beneficiary communities was a statutory requirement and a critical step towards ensuring smooth project implementation.
“It is prudent that for any project of this nature, the people in charge must engage the community before work begins. The law requires that all relevant details of the project are made known to stakeholders to avoid misconceptions and misunderstandings,” Mr Dagbi stated.
The road project, which is under District Feeder roads project spans approximately 19 kilometres, is expected to begin at the Kome Junction, pass through Yenui Junction, to Atito, Latame, Alakple, then to Deta, and Kodzi, Kodzi-Clinic and terminate at Fiaxor.
The poor state of the Kome–Shime roads has long been a major concern for residents of the Anloga District. The issue gained national attention and was even highlighted in a demand speech delivered by the Awoamefia of Anlo, Togbi Sri III, during the campaign visit of former President John Dramani Mahama in 2024
In attendance at the engagement were the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Sefe Kwame Richard, and the District Chief Executive for Anloga, Madam Sandra Kpedor. Both officials used the occasion to reassure residents of the John Dramani Mahama-led government to infrastructure development and the improvement of living conditions within the district.
Also present were officials from the Anloga District Assembly, traditional authorities, opinion leaders, and representatives from the Anlo-Kome communities, many of whom shared their expectations and concerns regarding the implementation of the project.
Mr Gregory Amissah, one of the project engineers, assured residents that the construction team would respect all local authorities and avoid interference with social amenity infrastructure such as water and electricity lines.
He appealed to the community’s leadership to provide them all necessary support for successful work and to the road user to drive with caution during the construction period.
The construction firm in charge of the project is “Construction Ambassadors”
Work is scheduled to commence in February 2026 and is expected to last for a period of 24 months with equipment already on site
The Kome area is largely noted for fishing activities on the Keta Lagoon and other fresh-inland water bodies, straw mat weaving due to the area’s marshy vegetation, crop farming, and other economic activities.
However, the poor condition of the road network over the years has hindered the transportation of goods and services to nearby commercial centres such as Anloga, Dabala, Keta and other nearby urban towns, resulting in economic disadvantages and health-related challenges for residents.
Residents expressed optimism that the completion of the Kome Roads project would significantly improve access to markets, boost economic activities, and better integrate the Kome communities into the urban economies of Anloga District.
