Members of pressure group, Arise Ghana, Tuesday picketed around the United States Embassy in Accra, demanding the extradition of Mr Kenneth Ofori-Atta, former Minister of Finance, from the United States to Ghana.
The demonstration, which took place along the shoulders of roads leading to the Embassy, was under heavy police presence to ensure the safety of persons and property.
Clad in red T-shirts, the demonstrators carried placards bearing inscriptions such as: “Ofori-Atta collapsed Ghana,” “Ken must come and account,” “Bring Ken back to Ghana,” and “Ken’s stewardship killed the Ghanaian economy.”
Mr Hopeson Adorye, a member of the United Party, who participated in the picketing, said he fully supported the actions of Arise Ghana.
He said the former Finance Minister must return to Ghana to face justice and account for his stewardship.
Mr Bernard Mornah, the Convener of Arise Ghana, said the group was hopeful of an expeditious process that would lead to the extradition of Mr Ofori-Atta to Ghana.
The former Finance Minister is scheduled to appear before a United States immigration court in Virginia today over alleged visa overstaying, following his detention by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The court appearance is expected to determine the immediate next steps regarding his immigration status in the United States.
