Mr Peter Dongi, the Banda District Chief Executive, has urged apprentices of the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP) to take their training seriously for their families, society and the nation to derive the optimum benefit.
He said the government was investing hugely in the NAP for them to acquire gainful employment, enhance their socio-economic livelihoods and also position them to contribute meaningfully to economic development.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Banda-Ahenkro, Mr Dongi said 50 young people in the district had been enrolled in the pilot implementation of the programme.
He indicated that the continuation of the implementation of the programme to benefit more young people depended on the level of seriousness the apprentices attached to their training.
Mr Dongi said the government  remained committed to monitoring the successful implementation of the NAP in the district, and urged masters of the trainees to ensure that the apprentices gained the required skills.
The NAP, a major government initiative to address youth unemployment, close the skills gap, and promote economic growth in the country, offers free high-quality apprenticeship training to equip young people with industry-relevant technical, vocational, and entrepreneurial skills.
On completion, the beneficiaries will receive nationally recognised certification and pathways to employment or self-employment in priority sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, ICT, fashion, construction, renewable energy, and traditional crafts.
