The Chirano Gold Mines Limited, a subsidiary of Asante Gold Corporation, has offered scholarships to 53 needy tertiary students from the company’s 20 catchment communities.

This is the third offer being made by the company, in collaboration with the General Manager’s Scholarship and Chirano Sefwiman Foundation.

Mr Stephen Asante Yamoah, the General Manager, Chicano Mine, presenting the scholarship to the beneficiaries, said it was a giant step towards a brighter future for deserving needy but brilliant students.

“Since 2020, Chirano Gold Mines Limited has been committed to supporting the educational aspirations of talented and deserving individuals from 20 catchment communities,” he said.

“Through the Chirano Sefwiman Foundation and the Chirano General Manager’s scholarships, we have already provided higher education opportunities to 54 needy brilliant students at the tertiary level.”

The company had spent about GHC 800,000 on the scholarships so far, which reaffirmed its commitment to education and community development, he said.

Mr Asante Yamoah was particularly excited with the partnership with Prof Stephen Adei, former Rector of GIMPA, in rolling out a literacy programme for pupils in the catchment communities.

He lauded the Board Members and the Executive Chairman of the Chirano Sefwiman Foundation for their stewardship, dedication and energy in making the scholarship and other community development programmes possible.

“Embrace the opportunity with gratitude, use it with determination, and let it be the guiding light that leads you towards your dreams,” he urged the students.

“Let your journey be guided by passion, curiosity, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Remember, you are not just recipients of a scholarship, you are ambassadors of hope, inspiration and change in your communities.”

Miss Eunice Addae Donkor, a level 200 Petroleum Engineering Student, University of Mines and Technology (UMAT), on behalf of the awardees, commended the company for the support, stressing that it would help make an impact in their academic journey.

She promised her commitment and that of her colleagues to prioritising their studies to make a name for themselves and justify the investments made.

Mr Emmanuel Frimpong, Deputy Director in charge of Finance and Administration, Bibiani Anwhiaso Bekwai Education Directorate, expressed gratitude to the company for its continuous support in improving education in the area.

He advised the beneficiaries to be examples of change and justify the investments made to be useful to themselves and society.

Chirano Gold Mine Ltd is an underground and open pit gold mine in the Western North Region of Ghana, within the Bibiani gold belt.

It is 90 per cent owned by Vancouver based Asante Gold Corporation. The Government of Ghana has a 10 per cent carried interest.
