The Advocates and Trainers for Children and Women Advancement and Rights (ATCWAR) have admitted some 200 youth, mainly ladies into a livelihood empowerment programme.
The project, under the ACTIVATE programme of the MasterCard Foundation, hopes to spur growth among the beneficiaries, contribute to economic stability and independence among that population.
Madam Beatrice Ekua-Ansah, the Executive Director said the ladies would go through three weeks of intensive training in soap making as well as using local raw materials like cassava, cocoyam and potatoes for cake, bread and biscuits.
Additionally, the training would cover basic entrepreneurship, packaging and marketing skills, financial literacy, workplace etiquette and catering skills.
The ACTIVATE project, she noted, thrived on creating harmony between host communities and refugee populations.
Mrs. Ansah-Eshun said: “This project is not merely a classroom work; it is a career launchpad. Our primary goal is to ensure that by the end of this training, you are able to gain direct employment or successfully running your business.”
She noted that cassava was not only for fufu and gari but could be turn into a fine powder for baking and urged manufacturers to pay attention to this local raw material.
