The Minority in Parliament has rescheduled its intended second protest, which calls for the removal of Dr Ernest Addison, Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), and his two deputies to Tuesday, August 13.

A statement dated Tuesday, July 23 issued to the Ghana Police Service by the Caucus, signed by Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, Accra has said.

Initially, the protest was slated for Tuesday, July 30.

It explained that the change was due to the launch of the NDC 2024 Campaign in Tamale on Saturday, July 27.

It said: “Many of our members will be attending the campaign launch, leaving little time to prepare for the protest.

“Following our discussion and conclusion of the date with your office, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) announced the 27th of July 2024 as the date of the launch of our national campaign in Tamale.

“Given that this date is so close to our planned demonstration in Accra, the 27th of July date has become inconvenient.”

It added that: “…Pursuant to sections 1, 2, and 3 of the Public Order Act 1994 (Act 491), I hereby write to request for the rescheduling of the demonstration from its original date of Tuesday 30th July 2024 to Tuesday 13th August 2024, between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm. The route remains the same”

In October 2023, the Minority staged a street protest demanding the resignation of the BoG Governor and his deputies.

They accused the Governor of being personally responsible for the BoG’s losses in 2022 and 2023.

The Minority was also opposed to the construction of a new central bank headquarters.
