The event, which brought together more than 200 young people and held at the Kongo Spiritual Renewal Centre in the Nabdam District, was the second of its kind, on the theme: “Word of God, Source of Hope for the Catholic Youth.”
Reverend Father Emmanuel Akansagse, Coordinator of the Diocesan Biblical Apostolate, who welcomed the participants, said the camp aimed to provide young Catholics with the opportunity to pray, study sacred scripture, and be guided to live upright and Christ-centered lives.
Father Akansagse urged the youth to be open to learning and exemplifying the values the programme was meant to imbibe in them.
Mrs Judith Amaltinga, one of the Adult Animators and her colleagues, including Mr Joel Ayeasiyinga and Mr Michael Anaridege Aluka, led the participants in singing Bible songs composed from selected scriptural texts, praising and praying to God.
The participants were also taught Catholic doctrine, including the significance of images in the Church and the difference between idols and the images or statues found in Catholic churches.
Other activities included an inter-deanery Bible quiz competition and group work, during which representatives identified individuals from each parish within a deanery to participate.
Father Akansagse led the youth in a procession through the Holy Door, after which the Word of God (Bible) and other symbols representing the Word of God were enthroned during a Holy Mass.
Madam Judith Amaltinga, Catechist Martin Amaltinga, and other adult animators led participants through activities, including how to compose Bible songs from the scriptures.
Mr Jawam Oscar was elected as the youth leader for the camp, with other participants chosen to assist him.
