The parliamentary candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC), was the only candidate present at the parliamentary dialogue organised by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) for the Chereponi Constituency.

The dialogue was to give the parliamentary candidates the opportunity to share their vision with the electorates and promote issues-based campaigns to enable voters to make informed decisions.

The parliamentary candidates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the area boycotted their session.

Mr Sulemana Abdulai, the Acting NCCE Director, Chereponi District, in his welcome address, highlighted the essence of the dialogue, saying it was to help the electorates make informed choices to help reduce personal attacks among political opponents.

He said peace was crucial for the progress and well-being of every society and called on the political parties to campaign based on issues for the advancement of the district.

Mr Eugene Tamado Koffikan Bashiru, the PNC parliamentary candidate, in his welcome address, said his presence at the dialogue affirmed his commitment to the affairs of the constituency and appealed to the electorates to give him the mandate.

He noted that Chereponi was largely a farming community and that he would improve the living conditions of the people when given the nod through well-thought-out policies in agriculture.

He pledged to attract international investors for local farmers, especially in soybean and cassava production, by providing them with free tractors, fertilisers and seeds.

On employment, Mr Bashiru promised to create job opportunities in the healthcare, education, and security sectors, particularly for graduates in nursing and other fields.

He said his focus was on the youth and women’s empowerment and proposed to develop industries in arts, culture and sports to generate jobs and boost local creativity.

Mr Bashiru promised to prioritise key road projects, such as the Yendi-Chereponi road, which connects to neighbouring Togo, to enhance local economic activities and regional trade while providing support for persons with disability.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Abdul Nasar Mohammad, Police Commander, Chereponi District, said citizens had a crucial role in maintaining stability during the elections and assured the electorates of the police’s readiness to uphold the law and ensure a peaceful and secure environment.
