Mr Frank Asiedu Bekoe, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Suhum, has cautioned Ghanaians, particularly motor vehicle drivers, to refrain from drinking alcohol and taking intoxicating substances while driving during the Christmas festivities.
He said, “Many drivers may prefer to be enjoying Christmas in so many forms, which includes drinking alcohol and other forms of highly intoxicating drugs, which could have serious repercussions when driving, which in most cases leads to serious road accidents that sometimes lead to deaths or serious deformities in people involved. I urge them to stay away from such acts this season, as we need everyone alive.”
Speaking in an interview with a section of the media in Parliament House, Accra, on Wednesday, Mr Bekoe emphasized that driving under the influence of alcohol was unlawful according to the Road Transport Regulations Act and urged young motorcycle riders to drive carefully and safely.
The MP also advised individuals engaging in fraudulent activities, including cybercrime, to desist, citing the consequences of being caught.
“The economy is not favourable to many people, especially under the NDC John Dramani Mahama-led administration, but that does not warrant anyone to engage in fraud,” he said.
Mr Bekoe encouraged the youth to explore legitimate minor jobs that could generate income rather than engaging in fraudulent activities that could lead to imprisonment.
He extended Christmas and New Year greetings to the people of Suhum Constituency and Ghana, urging them to prioritize their safety and well-being.
