He said interdepartmental collaboration promoted effective service delivery to the benefit of members of the public, and further propelled development projects in the district.
Mr Akurugo made the call when he addressed his maiden staff durbar of the Assembly.
Prior to the durbar, the DCE held a similar meeting with the Assembly’s management in which each head of department made brief presentations on their mandate among other issues of concern.
The durbar offered Mr Akurugo the opportunity to engage with members of staff to share ideas, strategize, and work collaboratively to reposition the district on the path of development.
Even though the DCE, a nurse by profession, acknowledged resource constraints among other challenges in the area, he admonished staff of the Assembly to continue to work diligently to achieve their mandate.
Mr Akurugo assured staff of his commitment and that management would appreciate the efforts of dedicated and hardworking staff during the numerous challenges.
The DCE said his administration would also ensure that health, sanitation, education, road and other critical infrastructures received special attention.
He noted that President John Dramani Mahama emphasized the need for particular attention to sanitation as that would be a cardinal indicator in scoring the work of Assemblies across the country.
Mr Akurugo disclosed that management of the Assembly would soon visit ongoing Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) projects in the area and cautioned that any Contractor whose work was below standard, would be reprimanded.
The SOCO Project is a multi-country US$450 million credit facility from the World Bank to be implemented in Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo and Benin.
The Government of Ghana received US$150 million out of the total credit facility to implement the project in 48 Municipalities and Districts in the Upper East, Savannah, Oti, North East, Upper West and Northern Regions.
The project, implemented in Ghana by the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, was launched in Bolgatanga in November 2022.
Mr Akurugo disclosed that phase three of the project would soon be rolled out across the district.
He expressed gratitude to President Mahama for nominating him to the position of DCE and gave the assurance that he would work to improve the fortunes of the district and further commended the Assembly members of the area for the overwhelming endorsement he received.
Mr Amadu Abubakari, the District Coordinating Director, noted that from 2020 till date, resource flow to the Assembly was insufficient, and expressed the hope that government would allocate enough resources to the Assembly to operate effectively.
He encouraged heads of departments to get involved in the Assembly’s budget preparation and make relevant inputs to their specific departments for proper resource allocation.
