Delta Air Lines and Junior Achievement (JA) Africa have strengthened their partnership to equip African girls with essential tools, knowledge, and the confidence needed to excel in business and leadership.

The organisations recently held their joint JA Africa Company of the Year (COY) competition, which honoured 12 young women with the Delta Air Lines Girls LEAD Award.

A release from Kingdom Concepts Consult said the recipients, would receive all-expenses-paid scholarships to join 45 other outstanding young female leaders from Ghana, South Africa, and Nigeria.

Officials say the second edition of the Delta Girls LEAD Camp would be held in Accra, in March 2025, to coincide with International Women’s Day.

“The camp is designed to enhance participants’ leadership and business skills through targeted workshops on personal branding, leadership, emotional intelligence, and STEM careers.

“These sessions, which would be led by seasoned Delta volunteers and notable women from various industries, aim to foster critical soft skills,” the release said.

ED Bastian, CEO, Delta Air Lines, said the partnership with JA Africa for the Girls LEAD initiative “demonstrates Delta’s devotion to providing opportunities for the next generation of female leaders, helping them turn their potential into lasting impact.”

“We are honoured to invest in empowering young women, equipping them with the tools and confidence to surmount obstacles and excel in leadership and business,” the company added.

Simi Nwogugu, President and CEO of JA Africa, emphasised the transformative impact of the initiative, which would help the girls “challenge societal norms.”

“This partnership between Delta Air Lines and JA Africa exemplifies a committed effort to combat gender inequality and empower a new generation of female leaders…

“It ensures that these young women are equipped to contribute meaningfully to Africa’s sustainable development,” officials noted.

JA Africa is one of Africa’s largest and most impactful youth-serving NGOs, which aims to “prepare Africa’s youth for the future of jobs.”

Through various initiatives, the organisation empowers young people to grow their entrepreneurial ideas, hone their work skills, manage their earnings, and secure better lives for themselves, their families, and their communities.

JA Africa is present in 23 countries in sub-Saharan Africa and collectively reaches more than one million youth each year.
