– The Nkwanta-Kpassa stretch of the Eastern Corridor Road in the Oti Region is undergoing a major face-lift under the District Road Improvement Project (DRIP).

The road that poses threat and frustration for both drivers, riders and passengers due to its bad nature for over 10 years has brought a sigh of relief to commuters due to the ongoing project.

Late Professor John Evans Atta Mills, former President’s administration in 2012, awarded the road for construction but faced numerous delays and neglect leading to the current state that has hindered economic activities and posed risks for motorists.

The road has been characterized by potholes, galleys and inadequate drainage system making it dangerous and time- consuming.

Mr. Felix Owusu-Gyimah, the Municipal Chief Executive of Nkwanta South, said the DRIP initiative aimed at rehabilitation and upgrading road networks within the Municipality, with the Nkwanta-Kpassa segment as topmost priority.

He also stressed the importance of fixing the bad portion of the road, to improve access to healthcare and enhance opportunities for surrounding communities.

Mr. Owusu-Gyimah said the Eastern Corridor Road is not just a pathway but a lifeline for people and the government, which the Assembly was committed to ensuring that it receives the attention it deserves.

He noted that the poor state of the road does not only hamper the movement of goods and services but also affected the overall economic development of the twin-assemblies.

The MCE urged the residents to support the government by voting for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the parliamentary candidate for Nkwanta South, Madam Sherifa Sekyere-Tijani come December 7.

Mr. Festus Okpora, Oti Regional DRIP Coordinator, said the DRIP initiative spearheaded by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government aims to address road infrastructure in vulnerable area and the Nkwanta-Kpassa road is a key focus.

He also noted that with funding and technical support from JA Plantpool, the Oti Region is set to witness significant roads improvement.
