The Electricity Company of Ghana Limited has engaged customers and users of electricity in the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipality.

The engagements are aimed at improving interactions between the Company and its customers, explain issues of concern to the customers and resolve persisting challenges.

Topics discussed included the Customers Assets and Information Management project (CAIMS), ECG’s cashless service, the replacement of postpaid and non-smart prepaid meters with smart prepaid meters under the Loss Reduction Programme (LRP), power supply reliability issues and the revenue mobilisation drive by the Company.

Staff of the Company visited and interacted with community leaders and Chiefs, worshippers in Mosques and Churches, traders and market women as well as organised community durbars.

Explaining the benefits of the Loss Reduction Programme, the Marketing Officer for ECG in the Accra West Region, Mrs. Elizabeth Appiah, reiterated the benefits of the new MMS-compliant smart prepaid meters to customers.

She said that the smart meters allowed customers to top up credits and monitor their daily consumptions through the ECG mobile app.

“Using the ECG mobile app provides customers with convenience, safety and security. Customers get regular notifications and alerts from ECG, and they can use the platform to report faults and other challenges as well,” she said.

Mrs. Appiah said transactions on the ECG mobile app were free and did not attract e-levy charges.

The Regional Public Relations Officer, Mr Frederick Baimbill-Johnson, assured the customers that outstanding credit balance on meters that were replaced would be transferred to the newly installed smart prepaid meters.

“We encourage customers who had outstanding balances before their meters were replaced to visit our offices for validation and reimbursement.”

Mr. Baimbill-Johnson also revealed that an instalment payment schedule had been agreed for customers whose debts were transferred from their postpaid meters.

He encouraged customers who had challenges understanding any aspect of the Company’s operations to visit the district office for clarity.

The Accra West General Manager, Mr Emmanuel Akinie, reiterated that the mass meter replacement exercise was absolutely free, and cautioned customers to be wary of the activities of fraudsters who may pose as staff of ECG to swindle unsuspecting people.

“All our staff have valid I.D cards and we encourage customers to demand them whenever in doubt. Under no circumstances will a staff demand money from a customer. We have gone completely cashless and so, all valid transactions will be initiated for the customer to make payment through a prompt on his phone.”

He warned customers not to pay money into private mobile money wallets, or pay cash to anyone purporting to work for ECG.

Operational areas under the Accra West region of ECG are Ablekuma, Achimota, Amasaman, Bortianor, Dansoman, Kaneshie, Korlebu and the Nsawam districts.
