The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will begin deploying franchise officers across all district operational areas nationwide from February 2026 to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.
Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, General Manager for External Relations at ECG, explained that franchise officers will support field operations by reading postpaid meters, checking prepaid meters, distributing and printing bills on-site using handheld devices, and assisting customers with payments through the ECG Power App and short code *226#. Cash payments are strictly prohibited.
Officers will also disconnect customers with arrears, identify illegal electricity activities, and report them for action. Dr Ayiku emphasized that the initiative aims to bring services closer to customers, improve billing accuracy, strengthen community engagement, and curb electricity theft.
“All franchise officers will carry official ECG ID cards and signed authorisation letters. Customers should verify these documents before engagement,” he noted.
The company said the move is part of its broader strategy to ensure transparency, accountability, and convenient, efficient electricity services nationwide. Customers can contact the ECG Call Centre on 0302611611 or reach out via social media @ECGghOfficial for more information.
