The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has begun a training programme to equip its systems operators and control engineers to effectively handle any emergencies that may arise before, during and after the December general elections.

The three-day training, which was led by the Ashanti Sub-Transmission Region of ECG and conducted in three separate bathes at the Boadi regional office in Kumasi, attracted systems operators and control engineers from various locations across the region.

The initiative is part of ECG’s dual-layered approach to ensure uninterrupted power supply by focusing on preventive system maintenance and staff readiness.

Mr. Collins Manu, the Public Relations Officer for the Ashanti Sub-Transmission Region, speaking to the Ghana News Agency on the training programme, said the training was an essential element of the company’s efforts to maintain power supply without any interruptions throughout the electioneering period.

He emphasised that the ECG’s strategies encompassed guaranteeing the optimal condition of the system through preventive maintenance and ensuring that personnel were adequately prepared to manage emergencies.

Mr. Manu pointed out that ECG’s proactive stance was a crucial step in ensuring consistent power supply, even in the face of potential challenges.

The primary objective, he said, was to enhance participants’ confidence and proficiency in responding to critical situations effectively and professionally, particularly during times of heightened demand and disruptions, such as national elections.

He said through these preparations, ECG was reaffirming its dedication to being a dependable partner in Ghana’s socioeconomic progress.

He reassured the public that ECG was fully prepared to deliver safe, reliable electricity to meet the country’s energy requirements during the elections and beyond.

“The timing of this training is critical, as the stability of electricity supply is paramount for the smooth functioning of the electoral process and other essential services nationwide”, he added.

The Ashanti Sub-Transmission Region of ECG continues to play a pivotal role in the company’s overall operational efficiency.
