The approval followed a meeting held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, chaired by Mr Clement Abas Apaak, Deputy Minister for Education, with officials of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission and the University of Ghana, including its council, management and students.
The decision was contained in a press release issued by Mr Apaak and copied to the Ghana News Agency.
The statement said that under the approved fee structure, the Academic Facility User Fee would remain pegged at the 2024/2025 rate.
It said students would continue to pay GH¢50 as Student Representative Council dues, while the Student Representative Council (SRC) Development Levy had been set at GH¢150.
The statement said graduate students under the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana would pay a development levy of GH¢250, while a GH¢122 Telecel broadband levy would apply to all undergraduate students, including freshmen.
“This broadband should be treated as optional, and students must be properly educated of their right to opt out if they so decide,” it said.
The statement said a GH¢100 75th Anniversary levy had been approved, adding that the charge could not be extended beyond the 2025/2026 academic year.
It said the approved fees and charges were applicable only to the University of Ghana and could not be applied by any other public tertiary institution.
The statement said the Minister for Education had constituted a Fee Review Committee to assess future fee adjustment proposals submitted by public tertiary institutions.
It said the committee would be chaired by the Deputy Minister, who would make recommendations to Parliament for approval.
