The Chiefs and people of Oboadaka and Amanfrom Attakrom Communities in the Eastern Region have expressed joy for the provision of mechanised boreholes for them after many years of water scarcity.

Chedomhene Nana Otu Kofi I, Chief of Oboadaka, said the facility was a lifesaving gesture as the Community had lacked safe drinking water for many years.download 2024 03 25T122610.708

“The township becomes dry during Hammattan and we suffer so much to get water, today we are happy to have access to potable water, this will ensure a healthy community and development,” he stated.

The Chief made these remarks at the Commissioning and handing over of newly installed mechanised boreholes in the Community by the German Development Cooperation in partnership with Kasapreko PLC and Blue Skies under the “COVID-19 comprehensive Pandemic Management for Employees, Families and Communities”.

The boreholes at Aboadaka and Amanfrom Attakrom are among 24 of such projects in the Eastern and Bono Regions to ensure reliable access to clean water for several communities, which highlights the theme for this year’s World Water Day on the theme: “Water for Peace”.

Mr Laud Kweku Akuffo, Assemblyman for Oboadaka Electoral area, said the Community had close to eight borehole drills, with most of them containing so much iron.

He said the only one that gave hope was the borehole by GIZ and partners, adding that the feedback from the community had been great.

Other Community members who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) were overwhelmed with the initiative and said the facility would save them from waking up at midnight in search of water.

They commended the partners for the gesture and appealed for more.

Dr. Till Holger, Team Lead for GIZ DeveloPPP Ghana, said the partnership with the private sector was to support government in its developmental agenda by providing potable water to the people towards the attainment of the sustainable Development Goals.

He urged the Communities to maintain the facility to serve them better.

Mr Alistair Djimatey, Head of Corporate Affairs, Blue Skies, said the provision of the facility was crucial taking into consideration pandemic preparedness in the country.

Ms Linda Aidoo, Marketing Manager, Kasapreko PLC, said access to clean water was not just a necessity, but a fundamental human right.

“Today marks a pivotal moment as we take steps forward in ensuring that these communities have access to safe and clean water,” she said.

“Our partnership underscores our shared commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility and sustainable development, together we are making a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and families, empowering them with the resources they need to strive.”
