The downpour, which lasted for more than six hours, resulted in parts of Adiembra, Sekondi, and the Central Business District (CBD) inundated, destroying properties and displacing residents.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) announced that the heavy rainstorm caused outages within its network, affecting several communities within the Western Region.
In a statement, the ECG assured affected customers that its engineers were working tirelessly to repair the faults and restore the power supply.
“We are aware of the power outages caused by the heavy rainstorm and want to assure our customers that we are doing everything possible to restore power as quickly as possible,” the statement said.
The floods also caused disruptions to daily activities, with several roads and streets becoming impassable.
Residents were advised to take the necessary precautions and avoid wading through floodwaters, which could be contaminated with pollutants and posed health risks.
Some affected residents appealed to the City Authorities to take immediate action to address the flooding issue and provide relief to affected residents.
The Ghana Meteorological Agency has warned of more rains in the coming days, and advised residents to be prepared and take the necessary precautions to minimise the impact of the floods.
