The Embassy, in a press statement, sympatised with the family of the deceased persons, who include Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence, and Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.
The others are Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security; Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Samuel Aboagye, former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Malin Twum-Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
“It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt sympathy that the German Embassy in Accra has learned of the tragic loss of lives in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Government, families and friends of the victims. Among the victims are honourable public servants, including two ministers, with whom the German Embassy has worked closely and trustfully.”
“Their dedication to Ghana’s development, their vision, and their personal warmth will be deeply missed. Germany stands in grief and solidarity with the people of Ghana during this difficult time,” the statement said.
Flags are flying at half-mast following the incident, which occurred in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region.
Mr. Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, confirmed the tragedy in a press briefing.
The victims were attending an anti-illegal mining event, known as the Responsible Co-operative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP), at Obuasi.
