The Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH) has celebrated two of its pioneer leaders, Dr John Tampouri and Dr John Korbuvi, for their exceptional contributions to the growth and transformation of the institution.
At a send-off ceremony, Dr Hintermann Mbroh, Chief Executive Officer of HTH, expressed profound gratitude to Dr Tampouri, the foundation CEO, and Dr Korbuvi, former Director of Pharmaceutical Services, for their dedicated service.
He noted that their influence remained visible in the hospital’s structures, work culture and sustained progress, adding that “HTH is better because of you.”
Professor Lydia Aziato, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) and a member of the HTH Governing Board, delivered remarks on behalf of the Board Chairman, commending Dr Tampouri for his instrumental role in securing recognition for the hospital as a teaching institution and lauded both leaders for their significant contributions to human resource development and mentorship.
Dr Delanyo Dovlo, Board Chairman, said the hospital experienced remarkable transformation under their leadership, with strengthened systems, enhanced professionalism and a firm foundation for continued growth.
He described the two as role models who guided young professionals and upheld a high standard of patient care.
He encouraged the hospital to continue engaging them, noting: “If they can help, please call them back.”
Emeritus Professor Fred Newton Binka, founding Vice-Chancellor of UHAS, praised Dr Tampouri for his contributions to the university’s accreditation, which has significantly benefited student training.
The ceremony, attended by the Volta Regional Minister, representatives of the Ministry of Health, hospital staff and traditional authorities, featured commendatory messages highlighting the honourees’ visionary leadership and dedication to excellence.
Both retirees received citations and gifts in recognition of their service.
Dr Tampouri’s citation emphasised his personable leadership style, encouragement of innovation and support for young professionals, which helped build their confidence.
Dr Korbuvi was celebrated as a meticulous, results-driven leader whose stewardship of the pharmacy directorate strengthened pharmaceutical services and mentorship for many pharmacists and healthcare workers.
Expressing gratitude, Dr Tampouri thanked colleagues for their collective efforts in the hospital’s development and encouraged the new management to embrace innovative approaches for the institution’s continued growth.
Dr Korbuvi also expressed appreciation, acknowledging his mentor, Dr Divine Azameti, and his family for their support throughout his career.
Ho Teaching Hospital, formerly the Volta Regional Hospital (Trafalgar), is a major public tertiary facility established in 1999 and upgraded in 2019 to serve as the teaching hospital for UHAS, offering specialised care, training and research.
