Ho West tops MDAs in Volta on 2021 District League Table

The Ho West District tops all 18 Municipal and Districts

Hohoe (V/R)-Ghana, Nov. 11, GNA – The Ho West District tops all 18 Municipal and Districts (MDs) in the 2021 District League Table (DLT) with a score of 71.82.

Although the first in the region, Ho West is the 49th among all the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts (MMDs) nationwide.

The DLT, since its inception in 2014, has served as one of the important tools for measuring the status of development at the subnational level.

The 2021 DLT Report ranked all 261 MMDs on the wellbeing of its citizens based on seven sectors and 22 indicators with a focus on the survival and development of children.

The selected indicators incorporate both the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and African Union Agenda 2063 indicators to generate appropriate district level data and analysis for achieving these international commitments in Health, education, water, sanitation, energy, nutrition and governance.

Ho Municipal came 2nd with 70.42 and 63rd nationwide, North Tongu District came 3rd with 69.83 scores and 75th nationwide.

South Tongu was 4th at the regional level and 87th nationwide, Ketu North Municipal with scores of 68.20, is ranked 5th position and 91st nationwide.

Hohoe Municipal with scores 67.75 is placed 98th nationwide and 6th position, Central Tongu had scores of 67.28 to place 106th and 7th position at the national and regional level respectively.

Kpando scored 66.80 to place 113th in the national ranking and 8th at the regional level, North Dayi with 62.97 placed 163rd nationwide and 9th at the regional level.

The South Tongu District placed 183rd nationwide and 10th at the regional level with a score of 61.54 while Adaklu with a score 60.63 placed 188th nationwide and 11th in the region and the Akatsi North placing 190th nationwide and 12th at the regional level with 60.29 scores.

Afadzato South came 13th in the region and 199th nationwide with 59.73 scores, Anloga followed at the 14th position with 59.35 scores and 204th nationwide and Akatsi South with a score of 55.77 placed 225th nationwide and 15th in the region.

The Agortime Ziope scored 55.43 to place 16th in the region and 228th nationwide, Ketu South with 52.72 placing 17th in the region and 241st nationwide while Keta got the last position in the region with 51.68 but 247th nationwide.

Performances under the various sectors showed that Agortime Ziope emerged the winner under the education sector in the region but placed 34th nationwide with a score of 37.32.
Keta Municipal emerged as winner under the health sector in the region but placed 29th nationwide with 90.50 scores.

Ho West scored 97.33 as the winner in the region but placed 12th at the national level under the nutrition sector, scored 80.00 to place 1st in the region and 26th nationwide under sanitation sector and under governance, maintained 1st in the region and 18th nationwide with a score of 97.00.

Under water sector, South Dayi placed 1st with a score of 96.00 and 22nd nationwide, Ho placed first under the energy sector with score of 100 both at the regional and national level.

It was also revealed that the Hohoe Municipality is among the ten least scoring MMDs in the education sector with 7.30 score and 254th position nationwide.

The North Dayi also finds itself under the ten lowest scoring MMDs in the sanitation sector with a score of 11.90 and 255th position nationwide while Keta had the last position of MMDs under governance sector with a score of 22.90.

The Volta region placed 9th under governance, 5th under energy, 10th under sanitation, 9th under water, 7th under nutrition, 15th under health and 14th under education sectors.

It was recommended that District Assemblies should ensure the provision of timely, accurate and quality data in the Annual Progress Report to facilitate effective assessment of citizens’ well-being.

They should also ensure that information is adequately provided on local economic development (1D1F, IGF generation) to aid assessment of the economic well-being of the citizens in their jurisdiction.
