An INTERPOL Red Notice issued against Kenneth Ofori-Atta, a former Minister of Finance, has been deleted permanently, his lawyer  announced on Saturday.

A statement signed by Mr Justice Kusi-Minkah Premo, Counsel for Ofori-Atta, said the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files (CCF) had notified his client of the decision.

“We are pleased to announce that today, February 13, 2026, the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files (CCF) notified Kenneth Ofori-Atta that on February 4, 2026, during its 135th Session, it determined that the Red Notice issued against Mr Ofori-Atta ‘appears of a predominantly political character’ and is non-compliant with INTERPOL’s rules, and shall be deleted from INTERPOL’s files permanently,” the statement said.

It said the CCF, after a thorough examination of the matter, found that the challenged data registered by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) of Ghana were not compliant with INTERPOL’s rules and directed that they be deleted from its information system.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has confirmed the decision of the CCF concerning the Red Notice issued at Ghana’s request for Mr Ofori-Atta.

The OSP said summons issued by the Criminal Division of the High Court in Accra had been transmitted for service in the United States, requiring his appearance to answer multiple criminal charges.

“Efforts to secure his appearance continue through established legal and diplomatic channels,” it said.

The OSP is seeking the extradition of the former Finance Minister to stand trial in the ongoing case.

Ken Ofori-Atta and six others have been arraigned at a High Court in Accra for allegedly scheming to improperly secure a procurement contract for Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited, resulting in the loss of GH¢1.4 billion.
