Hundreds of Muslims in Koforidua on Monday celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr with great joy, marking the end of Ramadan with prayers, reflection, and communal festivities.

This year’s celebration was made even more special by the additional public holiday, declared by President John Dramani Mahama, allowing worshippers countrywide more time for spiritual reflection and togetherness.

The vibrant festivities saw worshippers clad in traditional white garments, symbolizing purity, as they gathered at the Central Mosque of the Eastern Regional capital for prayers.

Led by Eastern Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Yusuf Amdani, the congregation engaged in the customary six additional Takbirs, exalting “Allahu Akbar” in unison.

He urged Muslims to embrace peace, emphasizing Islam’s core teachings of harmony and goodwill.

The joyous celebrations reinforced values of peace, unity, and gratitude, highlighting the significance of the occasion in strengthening faith and community bonds.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Alhaji Suleman Salifu Ahmed, Secretary to the Council of Zongo Chiefs in the Eastern Region, emphasized the significance of the celebration in strengthening values of generosity and devotion.

He noted that the additional public holiday granted them more time to reflect on their spiritual journey and appreciate Allah’s blessings.

President Mahama’s recent amendment to the Public Holiday Act allows for an additional holiday dedicated to Eid-ul-Fitr, a move warmly welcomed by the Muslim community.

The joyous occasion reinforced the spirit of unity and devotion among the faithful, highlighting the essence of Eid-ul-Fitr as a time for reflection and renewed commitment to faith.
