The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has held a dialogue session for parliamentary candidates contesting the Kpone-Katamanso Constituency seat in the December 7 elections.

The initiative was to ensure direct engagement between the candidates and the electorate to enable them to address critical issues.

Two out of the four candidates, Mr William Ofosu Asante, New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Mr Samuel Kofi Agbane, Progressive People’s Party (PPP), were present.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate and an independent candidate did not attend the forum.

Ms Rebecca Colecraft, Assistant Director in Charge of Programmes, NCCE, emphasised the importance of such engagements in promoting accountability and informed decision-making.

“This platform provides an opportunity for voters to directly question their potential representatives, ensuring that their concerns are heard and addressed,” she said.

Mr Seth Sotie, the Kpone-Katamanso Metropolitan NCCE Director, underscored the Commission’s commitment to strengthening democratic practices.

“The NCCE remains dedicated to bridging the gap between citizens and their leaders. This dialogue is a critical step towards enhancing transparency and fostering trust in the electoral process.”

The dialogue, themed; “Matters of Interest to the Ghanaian Voter,” allowed the candidates present to outline their vision and strategies for addressing key developmental issues in the constituency.

The dialogue, which was held at the Kpone Mt Sinai Methodist Church Auditorium, was attended by scores of party supporters, mostly from the NPP, in addition to some opinion leaders.

The NPP’s Mr Ofosu Asante highlighted his plans to improve infrastructure, education, and healthcare delivery.

He assured constituents of his dedication to creating opportunities for economic growth through his unique leadership traits that would propel development within the various communities.

The PPP’s Kofi Agbane promised to prioritise job creation and youth empowerment, and advocate increased government support for local industries to drive economic progress

He  blamed successive governments for failing to develop Kpone-Katamanso, hence his decision to contest the parliamentary seat in the upcoming general election.

The event was well-attended by community members who asked questions on issues ranging from unemployment to access to quality education and healthcare.

The NCCE urged all political actors to actively participate in such programmes to demonstrate their commitment to addressing the concerns of the electorate.

As Ghana prepares for another crucial election, the Commission reiterates its call for peaceful and issue-based campaigns.
