The Central Assembly of the Church of Pentecost at Kweikuma, in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis, has organised a free health screening for its members and residents in Kweikuma as part of its International Evangelism Week.

The free health screening sought to bring health professionals and health care to the doorsteps of the people to help them know the kind of health challenges they faced and how best it could be treated.

Pastor Alex Edem Ashinyo, Head Pastor, Church of Pentecost, Kweikuma District Central Assembly, told the Ghana News Agency that the church also embarked on rallies, health walk, door to door sharing of the gospel among other activities to win souls for God.

The theme for the Evangelism Week Celebration was: “Unleashed to Win Souls” with scripture texts from Matthew 28:18-20 and Ephesians 4:1.

Pastor Ashinyo encouraged the community members to make it a point to regularly visit health facilities to get their health checked.

Madam Sarah Adofoah Berkoh, a nurse administrator, Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, said there was the need for people to prioritize their health as health was wealth.

She noted that health education also formed part of the screening to help keep people abreast with their health status and on what to do when faced with any medical conditions.

Madam Leticia Ama Millar, Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist, Takoradi Hospital, said such health screening helped health workers to know the various health conditions of patients and how best they could help them detect any adverse conditions early.

She noted that some patients had to be referred to the hospital for further medical attention due to the state of their medical condition.

Madam Millar advised people to be cautious of what they ate and the kind of activities they engaged themselves in to avoid stress and other health problems.

Madam Adwoa Koba Annan, Deputy Chief Nursing Officer, Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, said a lot of factors contributed to various diseases of the eye, and therefore individuals needed to pay attention to their eyes.

She noted that eye specialists were very particular with glaucoma since it could lead to blindness.

Individuals were screened for various illnesses including hypertension, eye diseases, ENT related conditions, body mass index, among other conditions.

Some of the participants expressed gratitude for the kind gesture exhibited by the church, expressing the hope that the screening would go a long way to help improve upon their health.
