Kyabobo National Park in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti region has held its 2025 stakeholders conference aimed at strengthening sustainable development within the park’s fringe communities and the municipality.
The conference brought together a broad range of stakeholders, including traditional leaders, security agencies, corporate institutions, hospitality industry operators, media organisations, Assembly members, political leaders, and private business owners to share their thoughts on the way forward to bring change to the area.
Mr Alfred Kofi Bara, the Manager of Kyabobo National Park, took participants through the core mandate of the park, outlining ongoing conservation activities and proposed sustainable development initiatives.
He also explained that the projects were designed to enhance socio-economic livelihoods in surrounding communities while ensuring the protection of the park’s natural resources.
He took them through the park’s administrative structure and tourism potential, challenges, with emphasis placed on opportunities available across the tourism value chain.
Stakeholders were encouraged to explore partnerships in eco- tourism, hospitality, and other related services to maximise natural benefits.
Mr Bara called on stakeholders to actively support the park’s conversation and tourism initiatives, nothing that effective collaboration would help protect the environment, attract more tourists, and generate revenue for both the park and host communities.
He emphasised the effects of conflict on tourism and the activities of the park urging all to come together to thrive development.
During an interactive session, stakeholders expressed appreciation for the knowledge shared and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation with park management.
They also used the platform to collectively advocate for peace among conflict factions in the municipality, stressing that peace is a critical foundation for development and the success of conservation and tourism initiatives.
The conference concluded with a renewed commitment from all parties to work together towards peace, environmental protection, tourism growth, and sustainable development in the area.
