Labone Senior-High School launches 75th anniversary

Major-General Samuel Nii Anum Odotei, former Army Commander has called for investment in Information, Communication, Technology (ICT) to shape the future of students and prepare them for future challenges. 

He said ICT can impact student learning when teachers were digitally literate and understand how to integrate it into curriculum.

Maj-Gen. Odotei was speaking at the   launch of the 75th anniversary celebration of the Labone Senior-High School in Accra on Wednesday.

The year-long   celebration is on the theme ‘75 Years of Academic Excellence: -Celebrating    Our Past and Empowering Our Future through Technology’.

Activities planned for the celebration are Students Career and Family Fun Day, Health Screening, Home Coming, Food Bazar, Gospel Rock Show, Bonfire, Speech and Prize-Giving Day, Gala Dinner Dance and Thanksgiving Service.

Maj-General Odotei said schools use diverse set of ICT tools to communicate, create, disseminate, store, and manage information in some contexts.

‘It has also become integral to teaching-learning interaction through   such approaches as      replacing chalk boards with interactive digital white boards,’ he said.

The former Army Commander said when teachers were digitally literate to us e ICT, these      approaches can lead to higher order thinking skills, provide creative and individualized options to students to express their understandings and leave them better prepared to deal with ongoing technological change in society and workplace.

‘Computer technologies and other aspects of digital culture have changed the ways people live, work, play and learn, impacting the construction and distribution of knowledge and power around the world,’ Maj-Gen. Odotei added.

Mrs Rejoice Acolor, Headmistress of the school commended the government for implementing the Free Se nior-High School initiat ive  saying  ‘it is a policy that had undoubtedly broaden educational access for numerous students.

She said the school would continue to shine brightly, nurturing future generations with the aid of innovative technology through integration of technological tools.

‘We aim to enrich the learning experience, stimulate creativity and equip our students with the skills, competences, character qualities necessary to strive in a dynamic world of work and in adult life’, she said.

M r Listowel  Agbeli, President of the  Labone Old Students Association (LOSA)urged the students to take their studies seriously to attain success.
