Nana Ketu Adosua  VII, Chief of Gomoa Potsin, has admonished the electorate to consider character assessment and national development in making choices of candidates in the coming elections.

“Assessments should be key in order to help you to elect honest, truthful, selfless and hard-working leaders who will lead the country for greater development to better your lots,”, he stated.

Nana Adosua, made the call in an address he delivered at an Inter-Party Dialogue Forum organised by the Gomoa East Metropolitan Directorate of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) at Gomoa Potsin.

The event dubbed ” Parliamentary Candidate Dialogue,” was one of the flash programmes of the NCCE designed for parliamentary candidates:(PC) to meet the constituents to sell their intended policies to them.

Nana Adosua stated that, ” if we as people champion character assessment and development, it will help us cast our votes for leaders who are humble and development oriented.”

According to him, if care were not taken the continuous monetisation and distribution of items by politicians to canvass for votes, would gradually disturb the country’s democratic dispensation, hence the need for such acts to be stopped.

He commended the NCCE for continuously educating the people to know why they should vote to elect a President and Parliamentarians, and for creating a platform for PCs to interact with voters to make informed choices.

He advised all persons living in the Gomoa East Constituency to preach peace wherever they found themselves for peace to reign after the polls.

Mr Charles Paintsil, Gomoa East Metropolitan Director of the Commission, earlier informed the gathering that the objective for the creation of the PCD was as result of a survey conducted by the research department of the Commission on “matters of concern of the people” across the country ahead of the December 7 elections.

He stated that health, agriculture, roads, education, economy, water and sanitation were some of the concerns raised by the people, which they expected to be properly addressed to help improve their living standards.

He said Gomoa East was ranked as one of the peaceful areas in the country and as such he called on the citizens, particularly the youth not to allow some politicians to incite them to indulge in acts intended to cause mayhem before, during and after elections and destabilise the peace of the area.

Mr Kojo Asemanyi, New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) PC for the constituency, was the only candidate present at the event.

Highlighting his vision and policies on the key concerns of the general public, he stated that he had been tried and tested before as a former Member of Parliament, and urged the people to consider his previous achievements on socio-economic developments to give him another chance to continue from where he left to make the area better.

Mrs. Mercy Esi Essien, Central Regional Deputy Director of the Commission who graced the occasion, was positive of a violence free election.

She said peace was essential and so all must work vigorously towards sustaining the peace for posterity.

The event was attended by traditional leaders, civil society, youth groups, the clergy, Imams, assembly members, heads of department, security agencies, market women among others.
