The Methodist University Ghana is partnering with the Methodist Church Ghana to establish an Institute of Wesleyan Theological Studies.
The Institute will offer certificate and postgraduate programmes to the clergy and members of the Church.
Professor William Baah-Boateng, Vice-Chancellor of the Methodist University Ghana, made this known at the 23rd Congregation of the University in Accra on the theme: “Opening a New Chapter Beyond the Silver Jubilee Milestone.”
He said the University was graduating a total of 900 students, including 269 Master’s Degrees, 564 Bachelor’s Degrees and 12 Diplomas.
Among the students graduating at the degree level, 56 graduated with First Class honours, 205 with Second Class honours (Upper division), 188 with Second Class honours (lower division), 23 with Third Class and a Pass
He said the Management and a Team form Conference Office of the Church led by The Most Reverend Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo, the Immediate Past Presiding Bishop, had held its first meeting and suggested a designated place at Dansoman campus that would house the Institute.
He said Management was expected to hold follow-up meetings with the Team to finalise the process for the Institute to take off in 2026.
The Vice-Chancellor said the University was presently at the final accreditation stage for the introduction of some new programmes.
They are M.Ed and M.Phil in Educational Leadership and Administration, M.Ed and M.Phil in Educational
Assessment and Evaluation, Postgraduate Diploma in Education, BSc Computer Science, BSc Midwifery and Doctor of Counselling Psychology.
He said the University was committed to modernising all the lecture halls and providing at least one smart lecture room on each University campus.
To this end, Management had adopted the bold strategy of partnering with sponsors to adopt and refurbish lecture halls and theatres at the Faculty Block and naming the refurbished halls after the sponsors..
He said some individuals and organisations had agreed to partner the University in the venture.
Other infrastructure initiatives which the University has lined going forward include construction of additional lecture
halls at the Wenchi Nursing Campus, provision of new student chairs and desks for all campuses, provision of Wi-Fi services on the Tema and Wenchi Campuses for students, refurbishment and re-tooling of the nursing skills laboratories at the three campuses and the completion of the last floor of the Administration Block at the Dansoman Campus.
Prof Baah-Boateng said the University would seek the continued partnership of the Church in this infrastructure expansion, renovation and upgrading enterprise towards the growth and sustainability of the University.
“Chancellor sir, to meet the ambitious target of between of 10,000 students at the end in about four years, the University will review its existing programmes to suit the demand of the current and future job markets as well as introduce new programmes that align to the job market,” he added.
The Vice-Chancellor said one particular initiative, originated from the Chair of Council which was dear to his heart and important to the University was the introduction of Foundation Programme for Senior High School Students who could not make credit in Integrated Science, Core Mathematics, English, Elective Mathematics, and selected  elective courses at WASSCE and thus unable to gain admission to pursue tertiary education.
The programme is designed to assist these Senior High School graduates to improve on their grades to qualify for admission into various programmes at MUG.
“I am happy to report that the Academic Board has approved the proposal for introduction of the programme and it is expected to take-off in January 2026,” he added.
He expressed the hope that these programmes would broaden the academic portfolio and help to attract more students to enroll in the University.
The Vice-Chancellor appealed to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission to hasten the accreditation procedures,
particularly for the BSc Computer Science and Doctor of Counselling Psychology programmes, which have been pending for almost two years now.
