In a statement signed by Naval Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director-General of Public Relations, GAF reported that the incident occurred near Seaman, in the Adansi Akrofuom area of the Ashanti Region, killing all eight persons aboard.
The crew comprised Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
The passengers were Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress; and Mr. Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate.
GAF stated that investigations have commenced to ascertain the cause of the accident.
The deceased were en route to participate in an anti-illegal mining initiative known as the Responsible Co-operative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP), in Obuasi.
In honour of the departed, flags at the Ministries of Defence, Environment, Science and Technology, as well as at other government institutions, corporate bodies, and embassies, are being flown at half-mast.
The Ghana Armed Forces has extended its condolences to the bereaved families and pledged continued support throughout this period of national mourning.
