Dr Mahama‘s appointment, which took effect from January 7, 2025, was made without official notification to Parliament, sparking concerns about transparency and governance.
“…Secretary to the President, Parliament is not even aware of your appointment. Because under normal circumstances, the President is even supposed to communicate to Parliament.”
“It’s part of the imperatives of governance that he communicates to Parliament,” he said on Monday in Parliament House at the vetting of Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the Finance Minister-designate.
Mr Afenyo-Markin emphasised the importance of completing the formation of the President’s cabinet to ensure the smooth operation of government, and urged President Mahama to prioritise the process, citing the need for stability in key sectors.
The Minority’s Leader’s concerns stem from criticism of President Mahama’s approach to ministerial appointments, which he described as “tot-tot” or a piecemeal approach.
He argued that a comprehensive list of ministerial appointments should be ready to avoid delays and uncertainty in critical governance processes.
