He said the Bonsa River which supplies water to thousands of residents in Tarkwa Nsuaem and its environs had been polluted heavily by illegal miners, who seemed not to care about the future of the country.
To tackle the illegal mining menace, which had already affected the country’s forest reserves badly, the Municipal chief Imam, called for strong leadership and urged the government to take charge and make hard choices.
Alhaji Dodo made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Tarkwa to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Adha festival.
He noted that the significant celebration honoured the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael in obedience to God’s command.
According to him, in remembrance of this event, Muslims carry out a sacrifice which usually involved animals like sheep and cows, adding the meat of these animals would then be shared among family, friends and the needy.
The municipal chief Imam used the opportunity to pray for the President John Dramani Mahama and his ministers, asking Allah to grant them wisdom and insight needed to lead this country.
Mr Ebenezer Cobbinah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tarkwa Nsuaem, encouraged Muslims to promote love, peace, and unity.
He also encouraged the youth to maintain high moral standards.
