The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has made history during the December 7, 2024, general elections, painting eight constituencies in Tema and its environs green as they won all the seats.

The party made history by winning the Tema West and Tema Central seats, which have been traditional strongholds of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), winning the seat consecutively with huge margins in the past.

Results of the December 7, 2024, elections, however, saw the NDC toppling over the NPP in a fiercely contested race that saw a two-time contender, Mr. James Enu, of the NDC, snatching the seat from the NPP with 49,225 votes compared to what the NPP’s candidate, Mr Dennis Amfo Sefah, received of 27,618.

Tema Central, which had been occupied by men from the NPP since its creation in 2012, also fell into the hands of Ms. Ebi Bright of the NDC, who garnered 18,532 compared to her NPP contender, Mr. Charles Forson’s 18,421, making her the first female and NDC candidate to occupy the seat.

The Tema East seat was retained, making it the second time the NDC would occupy the seat, with the incumbent member of parliament, Mr. Isaac Ashia Odamtten, gaining 37,231 votes, leaving his relative Mr Yohane Amarh Ashitey, who contested for the NPP, receiving 23,081 votes.

Kpone-Katamanso constituency was retained for the NDC, as the incumbent MP, Mr. Joseph Akuerteh Tettey, cemented his win with 49,655, while his closest contender, Mr William Ofosu Asante of the NPP, received 25,308, and Mr. Samson Agbane of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and Mr Edward Amankwah of the New Force, respectively, polled 658 and 174.

The Ningo-Prampram constituency saw the incumbent NDC firebrand, Mr Samuel Nartey George, polling 44,934 votes to retain the seat for the third time, leaving Mr. Michael Tetteh-Eku of the NPP with 12,182, while independent candidates Mr. Frederick Forzie and Mr Evans Tetteh Nii Nartey received 275 and 1,404 votes.
The densely populated Ashiaman constituency gave the incumbent NDC candidate, Mr. Ernest Henry Norgbey, a third term with 65,083 votes, providing the NPP’s Mr. Justice King Esseiel with 25,927 votes, Heymann Emmanuel Kofi-Yesu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) gaining 295 votes, Mr Emmanuel Felix Mantey of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) polling 451, and Kudah Gadafi Adam, an independent candidate who withdrew from the race, receiving 2,261 votes.
The electorates of Ada renewed the mandate of Madam Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe Ghansah of the NDC for the fourth consecutive time, receiving a whopping 22,019 votes compared to the NPP’s Suzette Norley Dornukie Nortey’s 8,119 votes.

The NDC maintained its dominance in the Sege constituency with a new candidate, Mr. Daniel Keshi Bessey, gaining 18,718 votes, and the NPP’s candidate, Mr Dodzi Numekevor, receiving 7,313. Ms Eunice Lasi, an independent candidate, polled 5,827 votes.

With the elections over and history made by the NDC in Tema and its environs, residents in these eight constituencies are looking up to the president-elect, Mr John Dramani Mahama, and his party to fulfil their various campaign promises to make a difference in their standard of living.
