Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Vice-Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to establish a state-of-the-art fertility centre.

Addressing party supporters at Camp Junction in the Bia East Constituency, as part of her three-day campaign tour of the Western North Region, Prof Opoku-Agyemang noted that the high cost of treatment of fertility cases posed a challenge to many people desirous of having their own children.

She said the yet-to-be-established fertility centre would provide a low-cost service to families seeking to address fertility issues.

She also indicated that the next NDC government would construct a brand new 500-bed children’s hospital to improve Ghana’s healthcare delivery.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also reiterated that next NDC government would revisit its free sanitary pads policy, to provide free pads to female students across the country to keep girls in school.

“When the NDC was in government, we were providing free sanitary pads for these students, but our opponents then politicised it by telling lies to the public. Today the students are not getting it for free again and it is affecting their education.

“Under the next NDC government, sanitary pads will not be a barrier to the education of any female student in the country,” she assured.

She, therefore, urged the electorate to vote massively for John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming December 7 general elections to reset the country, provide jobs and financially empower women with the planned establishment of the Women’s Development Bank.

Mr. Samson Ahi, Member of Parliament for Sefwi Bodi, also assured cocoa farmers that the next NDC government would restore the sector to its golden days.

He accused the current government of taking advantage of cocoa farmers by paying them small amount of money as producer price compared to the huge world market price.

He said under the former Mahama administration, cocoa farmers were paid 70 per cent of the world market price as producer price, while providing free fertilizer, cocoa roads and other incentives.

Mr. Ahi said the next NDC government would pay cocoa farmers a “fair and reasonable producer price,” adding that the next Mahama administration would bring back “free fertiliser programme” and the supply of improved seedling, among others, to help cocoa farmers increase their yield.

Additionally, he said, the next NDC government would introduce a pension scheme for all cocoa farmers to support them when they reach retirement age.

He urged the electorate to vote for John Dramani and the NDC to enable him to “revive the cocoa sector and save the Ghana Cocoa Board from eventual collapse.”
