Nine females lost Parliament bids in Volta

Nine out of 11 females, who contested in the 2024 parliamentary elections, have lost their bids for the Member of Parliament (MP) slots.

Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, incumbent and MP-elect for Ketu South and Madam Jocelyn Tetteh, incumbent and MP-elect for North Dayi are the only two successful females.

The Hohoe, Ketu North, South Tongu, Central Tongu, Afadzato South and Kpando constituencies were constituencies that had female contestants, who were unsuccessful.

Madam Gomashie polled 78,902 votes representing 92.90 per cent, while Madam Tetteh garnered 12,778 votes, which represented 73.01 per cent.

Both candidates contested on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The rest of the 18 Members of Parliament in the Region are all males and representing the National Democratic Congress.

They are Mr Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, MP-elect for Keta, Mr Richard Kwame Sefe, Anlo Constituency, Mr Eric Edem Agbana, MP-elect for Ketu North, Mr Bernard Ahiafor, Akatsi South,Mr Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, Akatsi North and Mr Maxwell Lukutor for South Tongu.

Other MPs-elect include Mr Alexander Roosevelt Hottordze, Central Tongu, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, North Tongu Constituency, Mr Governs Kwame Agbodza, MP-elect for Adaklu,Mr Agbeve Charles, Agortime Ziope and Mr Richmond Kpotosu Edem for Ho Central.

The rest are Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, Ho West MP-elect, Mr Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, South Dayi, Mr Sebastian Deh, Kpando Constituency, Mr Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, Hohoe MP-elect and Mr Frank Afriyie, Afadzato South Constituency.
