The Ningo Prampram District Assembly (NiPDA) in the Greater Accra Region has wrapped up its week-long cleaning exercise at the East Lower electoral area in Prampram.
The exercise saw officials from the district assembly, traditional leaders, and youth groups, as well as residents, clean heaps of refuse at the Prampram landing beach on Friday.
Mr Rapheal Uriel Nartey, the Ningo-Prampram District Chief Executive (DCE), addressing participants after the exercise, commended and encouraged them to make sanitation a daily activity to keep their surroundings clean at all times.

Mr Nartey further hinted that the week-long exercise got featured in several areas within the district, mentioning Prampram, Ningo, Tsopoli, Mataheko, Afienya and other places within the jurisdiction.
According to the DCE, the assembly would ensure that gains were made as far as good sanitation practices were concerned, stressing that the district assemblies’ by-laws on sanitation have been activated and people who disregarded the sanitation by-laws would be dealt with according to the law.
Mr Clement Awuley Akuerteh, the assembly member for the East Lower electoral area, expressed gratitude to the district assembly for the initiative, saying publicity should be intensified to get more people informed to participate in the cleanup exercises.
Mr Akuerteh noted that residents within the area dump refuse indiscriminately due to the lack of a community skip container in the electoral area, adding that the district assembly should consider providing the communities with refuse containers to sustain the gains of the sanitation day exercise.
The cleanup exercise formed part of the week-long Sanitation Day Campaign initiated by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, and it is expected to be replicated in all 29 metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) in the region.
