The Parliamentary Service Board has appointed Mr Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror as the Clerk to Parliament, effective, January 1, 2025.

A statement made available to the Ghana News Agency said that at the Board’s extraordinary meeting in November, three deputy clerks were interviewed for the position and Mr Djietror emerged victorious.

This follows the retirement of the current Clerk to Parliament, Mr Cyril Kwabena Oteng Nsiah, who would be reaching the compulsory retirement age of 60 on 2nd February, 2025.

Mr Djietror is an experienced lawyer and one of the longest serving procedural clerks.

In addition to serving as the Clerk at Table of the House, he has served as the clerk to various committees of Parliament including the Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, the Business Committee, Committee on Judiciary as well as Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of the Eight Parliament and Chairman of the Parliamentary Service Board, had already issued an appointment letter to the incoming Clerk, to enable him commence work from 1st January, 2025.

Mr Nsiah had, in a letter signed by the Speaker, been directed to proceed on his annual leave due on the 31st of December, 2024.

It said Mr Djietrior was therefore, expected to be in the chair to conduct the swearing in of newly elected members of Parliament and the Speaker on the 7th of January next year.

“The incoming Clerk, who is touted as the most experienced procedural clerk and the longest serving clerk at the Table is expected to conduct proceedings without any difficulty,” the statement said.

“The Rt. Hon Speaker is expected to formally announce to the House about the appointment of the new clerk to Honourable Members of Parliament before the House rises Sine Die for the Christmas holidays.”
