Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has issued a stern warning to staff of the passport office to desist from demanding extra fees from applicants or face severe sanctions.
He urged applicants to report any officer found engaging in such practices for immediate action.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Passport Application Centre (PAC) in Dambai, the Oti Regional capital, the Minister explained that the official application fee of GH¢350 covers all services, with no additional delivery charges required.
“Passport staff are state-paid. If any are found guilty of taking bribes, they will face prosecution,” he emphasised.
Addressing stakeholders, community members, heads of security agencies, traditional authorities and others present, Mr Ablakwa said the Ghana Passport Service is intensifying efforts to curb corruption while promoting transparency and accountability.
He encouraged applicants experiencing delivery challenges to contact the Information and Affairs Bureau via ipab@mfa.gov.gh for assistance.
In another development, the Minister announced the introduction of an e-tracking system by the Passport Service, enabling applicants to monitor their applications online from submission to delivery.
He noted that the initiative enhances transparency and accountability, keeping applicants informed at every stage—approval, printing, and dispatching.
