Tema-Ghana, Aug. 07, GNA – As part of its 2023 health week celebration, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Redemption Congregation at Tema Community Nine, has organised a free health screening for church members.

The screening, which was done in collaboration with Sinel Specialist Hospital, saw over 200 members check their body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, blood glucose, and malaria tests.

Members of the Men’s Fellowship also received free prostate cancer screening as part of the exercise, while others had the opportunity to have one-on-one consultations with doctors on their health-related issues.

Mr. Emmanuel Atiemo, the Chairman of the Development and Social Services (DSS) of the church, told the Ghana News Agency that at the end of the screening, it was observed that some screened had high blood pressure.

Mr. Atiemo, who is also a Presbyter of the church, said such people and others who needed screening and medication were referred for follow-up care at the hospital.

He said the screening was to check the health status of the church members for early detection of sickness as a preventive measure.

He said the health screening exercise would be held monthly by the church’s internal medical team to detect early signs of illnesses and refer them, adding that the external full-scale screening would, however, be held annually.

He advised Christians to take their health seriously by regularly checking their blood pressure and sugar levels while engaging in exercises to improve their wellbeing.
